Hawaiian green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), resting on beach, and shadow of flying albatross (Phoebastria sp.), Sand Island, Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, Northwest Hawaiian Islands. This turtle is listed as endangered. Midway Atoll is one of the few places green sea turtles come ashore during the non-breeding season. They do this to avoid sharks patrolling the atoll's lagoon.
